Content Creation at AMBOSS

Over 80 hours of editing and peer review go into every article to ensure you’re getting the most trusted information and resources available, all in one place.

Physician authors reference the latest guidelines and studies to create AMBOSS content

Work is cross-checked by physicians who conduct reviews for accuracy and conciseness

Finally, before anything is published, a senior physician editor gives it another review

Content is then routinely updated to ensure it's the latest, most accurate information

Meet Some of the AMBOSS Physicians

Our doctors know what you’re going through—so they understand the kind of answers you’re looking for.

Sarah Withycombe

Education: The University of Texas at Austin, The University of Texas Medical Branch and Baylor College of Medicine Pediatrics residency
Specialty: Pediatrics
Why did I choose this career?
I decided to become a physician because I love learning, interacting with children, and have always had a love for science. Pediatrics is my specialty, but I’m also very interested in endocrinology and weight management.
What do I do at AMBOSS and why is it important?
Here at AMBOSS, I’m a junior medical editor, which means I consolidate the latest research and guidelines into something more manageable for busy residents and clinicians on the wards. As a doctor, it’s important to understand when you don’t know something and I enjoy creating content that helps doctors find accurate information quickly, in order to take care of their patients and decrease their own stress levels.
What do I do outside of work?
Outside of my professional life, I love to read (my favorite book is Les Misérables), meet new people and see the world through my children’s eyes –– being a mom is my biggest achievement.

Tomer Barak

Education: Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University and residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
Specialty: Internal Medicine
Why did I choose this career?
I love practicing the full scope of inpatient/outpatient internal medicine, and so picking a favorite area is difficult. Other than making my Jewish mother happy, my biggest achievement as a doctor is the seven years I spent living and working in Botswana, making a difference in the lives of both patients and medical trainees.

What do I do at AMBOSS and why is it important?
At AMBOSS I write and edit clinical reference materials for the platform. I really identify with the mission of empowering clinicians everywhere to provide the best possible care. This includes partnering with clinicians and educators around the world to provide free access to AMBOSS where they otherwise would be unable to afford it.

What do I do outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy reading and hiking.

Maryann Overland

Education: Undergrad at Carleton College in Minnesota, medical school at University of Rochester School of Medicine and residency at the University of Washington.
Specialty: Internal Medicine
Why did I choose this career?
Prior to medical school, I worked as a health educator, teaching sexual health in classrooms, doing street outreach, and running support groups for teen moms. I went into medicine with the ultimate goal of becoming a medical educator to help change the way physicians are trained to take care of the most vulnerable among us. I am incredibly proud of my work training Internal Medicine residents to be leaders in primary care.
What do I do at AMBOSS and why is it important?
Here at AMBOSS, I work as a medical editor and am proud of the work we do. The team-based approach ensures multiple levels of peer review, which means our users can be highly confident in what they learn from us. Ultimately, medical education should be accessible, equitable, and inclusive.
What do I do outside of work?
I enjoy hiking with my family and our dog and reading Bel Canto by Ann Patchett or The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. I’m a fan of the Seattle Reign and Seattle Sounders Football Clubs.

Scott Sutherland

Education: Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Specialty: Internal Medicine
Why did I choose this career?
I went into medicine to help care for patients by providing prompt care and solving diagnostic challenges. I've always had an interest in disaster and emergency medicine and my biggest achievement as a doctor was creating a Hepatitis A vaccination program during an outbreak in Philadelphia.
What do I do at AMBOSS and why it is important?
At AMBOSS, I work as medical editor, and create easily accessible and digestable high-yield content for clinicians. As medical knowledge continues to grow, it's important for physicians to have reliable access to clear and concise clinical information that they can immediately apply to patient care.
What do I do outside of work?
Besides my work, I enjoy traveling, biking and am a fan of escape rooms.
